When you reach the bottom of the winding downhill road leading to downtown Big Stone Gap (and drive past the Country Inn hotel to your right), take a left at the first red light you come to, then stay straight. You can't miss it.

I'm so nice I've made you a quick little diagram:

Hope this helps! Best of luck on your journey to Carnes Gym!

There wont be any signage that says "Carnes Gym" - its in the municipal building.
    You'll shoot your eye out.

I miss playing bball in there with some of the people that used to be on the forum about once a week.

Kudo's to chubz for that neat diagram, I remember him saying it's right there off that turn. Now is the gym open to everyone or do you have to have it reserved? Have no clue, I'd play there everyday after class if i could.

I think you need to go into the office portion of Town Hall and can reserve the gym if I am not mistaken.

    Re: Carnes gym...

I really wish I had somewhere to slowly get back into playing bball. I haven't played bball anywhere on a consistent basis in about 5 years, I really miss it. I've gained about 25lbs in the process too, bball kept my gut down.

Problem is, unless you either know somebody or have an "in" with a school, you can't get any gym time, really. Not w/o playing in one of the many redneckish mens' leagues around here where you're just as likely to break a limb or get shot as get fouled.

If anyone knows of an open gym somewhere with some semi-competitive yet friendly games, then please share.

That was the original home of Team Ironlock grappling and MMA. They use it for different types of classes and so forth so you do have to reserve it. Very easy to do, or use to be anyway. The Parks & Rec office inside the gym area use to be where you went, that was several years ago but I'd think it's still there.

    Re: Carnes gym...

How far do you have to reserve it in advance? Do you have to do it everytime? Cost anything? And what if there's no one using it, is it just open gym? Curious, didn't even know it existed until the other week, didn't get to have it today because the college was closed. It'd be neat to start an LPD forum league or something, doubt too many would be interested though.

We always play at UVAW, up there every other day during the summer, hard to catch it when everyones free plus the gym being free while basketball season is going on. But usually take some people up there or just go and get into some games, never any redneck play going on or have any problems with anyone. Everyone's usually pretty laid back, get some drunks in there, but hell they're just usually funny as ****.

    Re: Carnes gym...

I would be up for getting together and playing some time. I suck something terrible at bball anymore though due to weight gain and wasn't that great to begin with. I think there used to be a small fee to reserve it because when I was going down there a few years ago, 10 or 12 of us would be there and chip in a dollar or 2 each I think.
